I decided to draw on the background to place my pieces but because of the layering, I've reverted back to using a vinyl overlay as well. The more small pieces that get sewn on the block, the more distortion there is so using both has been a good idea for placement.
It's still a work in progress, I've done a bit of switching around with a few leaf colours and the fruit is going to get a makeover too. The orange could turn into another apple.
I had to refer back to the fruit in this block to look at my colours and fabrics, I'm so out of practice!

Your second block made me smile as it is the first Baltimore style block I ever made! (Ok...so I forgot to reverse the pattern and left out things I didn't like). The cornucopia is looking great! Keep going!

That really is so beautiful Janet. I have a Baltimore that I started years ago...and really need to re-do some blocks as it was made when I first began to quilt. Your work looks so perfect... such lovey colours.

beautiful, I know exactly what you mean I took out a Mary Mannakee block the other day and started choosing reds and greens , a bit rusty with the exact placement thing after working on the flower garden blocks!

Beautiful but I can imagine that it takes some time to get used to this work again. It is so different from your blocks in the previous post. I like them both very much. I also read your post about the trapunto. It certainly makes a lot of difference in the end result, beautiful !

Oh my, Janet.... simply gorgeous! I have a question, how did you get the seeds onto the what I assumed to be the watermelon seeds shown in the second picture? Are they also appliqued?

WOW! I just love the traditional blocks...wow! I need to go back and look at your other ones! Nice eye candy. The fabrics are spot on, especially the grapes, pears and that beautiful blue urn.

Your applique is gorgeous. It's fun seeing a block come to life. I love the cornocopia and the urn from the older block. Amazing!

Some blocks do not like to behave. I'm sure when you are finished with it, it will be fantastic!
Your plum is shaded beautifully! Is the blue vase fabric a hand dye? The color is so rich and I think it sets off the rest of the block perfectly.
It will be worth all the hard work you are putting into it!
Janet have you tried back basting? It makes placement a breeze.

Your post made me chuckle as I think we have all had blocks "with attitude." I'm sure you will tame it as it is looking so lovely already. Beautiful fabrics and stitching - the fruit looks so real. And the blue urn block is just beyond fabulous!

I agree with the UFO guilt. I go through that at times too. I am really trying hard not to start new things even though there are so many I would like to do. We just have to do what works for us.
