I really do love these basket blocks. The pattern is out of the Quilters Newsletter magazine you see below. They are needleturned applique with black perle cotton used for blanket stitch around the flowers.
These blocks have been neglected for long enough! Time to play Janet!!
Start by digging around in the scrap bin, there should be plenty there I can use.
Cut out the pieces for an alternate block. The green strips will tie it all together. Use same green for border?? Oh yeah then it will look like the background and also like the blocks are floating in a sea of
green. I could be onto a good plan here.
Lots of browns out of the stash to form a diagonal stepping stones effect.
This is what you get.
Mmmm, do I like it? Um maybe. It's not always good to be green. Do I like it enough to carry on with it? Well lets just say I have my reservations. I think maybe I'd like the quilt to be lighter, less green, fresher. yes, no yes,no!
OK now I have another idea, what if...... oops run out of time so will mull on that plan overnight. If I like it, I'll carry on playing with blocks tomorrow.

I really like that! The green looks perfect to me- so fresh and springy! ~ Jennie
Gorgeous - I have that mag, too - your blocks are gorgeous! I'm not GREEN and know I don't use enough of it - stay with it!

It's gorgeous, but to have the baskets 'star in the show' more...maybe a lighter green with pink steppingstones instead of brown? I love those green blocks, too. You have great color sense!
Janet these are adorable. I love all the color choices.
OH MY GOSH!!!
I am crazy about it. Love the colors of the fabrics and the prints. I'm a Scrappy Girl!
What a great way to attack the scrap pile! I love the quilt. But I do agree with "ratherbquilting" - I find the green a little heavy. Maybe something where a bit of lighter background shows through? Love the setting!
I think it looks nice, but agree maybe something a little lighter for the alternating blocks so they don't overwhelm the flower basket blocks.
So sweet! and yes to the green. I love green!
Much as I love green I have to agree with 2 other comments. Maybe a lighter green and pink stepping stones would be a better choice. The green and the brown take over your beautiful flower blocks.
Cute flower basket blocks. Can't wait to see what other idea you have.
OH...OH....I am 'in love' with
this!!!!! I had the same dilemma
with the green on a quilt of mine...I ended up using a lighter
green and am glad I did!!
I love your alternate blocks - they really suit your orphans. I can't wait to see what you do next!
Janet that is just so happy...I love green.
Love those baskets blocks. I love the centers of the new blocks but I am just feeling the brown and green. Maybe something lighter? Only because the flowers are pastel and it seems like those two shades take away from the flower blocks.
The green is fresh and springy!
Oh, I love this one - did you do the blanket stitch by hand? I'm quite smitten with the whole thing.
Love this quilt. Is it possible to get the directions for it?
Thanks
