Playing with blocks Part 2

What a change, getting these two versions together gives a good perspective. The new one reminds me of Easter baskets and chocolates. A little more whimsical, less formal.
I think I have enough serious quilts on the go :)
Thanks to everyone who helped me on my last post by leaving a comment and giving me some feedback. I might just sit on this for a few days.

I won't go into how I auditioned the squares and blocks with different fabrics and colours, but these new alternate blocks pull the colours out of the flowers without being overpowering.
I have a limited amount of the background fabric and not sure if I'll have enough for around the edges because I do want to add another row lengthwise. I will have to do some maths.
You can see the quilt below that the white was leftover from.
Another big stitch lap quilt. I used a wool batting for this one and wasn't happy with the quality.
The pattern is out of a feed sack book I have but with a retro theme going on and some minor changes.
Feel free to let me know what you think, it is appreciated, believe me.
By the way, I'm going to be a Nana again this year! My Daughter already has three gorgeous girls and is due again in August. I miss them terribly with them being in New Zealand.
My DH also has two of his children expecting, both in May. He already has three so together we will have nine grand kiddies.

OK-wow! I mean, I really did like the green version, but the new one is a lot brighter! Isn't it amazing what a little change can do? Congrats on the new grandkiddie!! ~ Jennie

The new, lighter squares show off the flower pots and looks happy. Wow with all the grand kiddies. I have two married children and my husband has two married children and NO babies. We are so ready. It must be difficult to have them far away. Enjoy every minute you do have with them.

Wow - I love your feedsack quilt! What was it about the wool batting that you didn't like?
Although I like your new setting squares - I like the green ones too. Whatever you decide is going to make for a great quilt!

I think your second version is better. The dot fabrics really bring out the colors of your flowers and I like how they mimic the shape of the flowers also. I think the brown brings out the buttonhole stitching. I liked the green, but the flower baskets seemed "squished" to me, this new setting gives them more room, so to speak. I recently discovered your blog and have gone back and read all your older posts. You do beautiful work. I love the scrappy bargello you posted the other day, I've already been digging in my scraps, would love to make something similar someday. Scraps quilts are my favorite. Congratulations on the new grandchild.

I love the little flowerpot quilts. How unique and varied. Very nice. It would make a nice little wallhanging for a child's room - even just one block. Love the luscious colors.

I really like the white better than the green. If you don't have enough of the white fabric, try one similar and make 4 or 5 out of that and mix them in. It's how they did it in the old days - make do. It will work visually.. I really do like the flowerpot block.

Congratulations Nana!

I love your flowerpot quilt..both versions!
And how surprising to see your whirling star quilt! I started one two years ago, getting the idea from a very different version (colorwise) antique quilt. But look how similar it is to yours!

I like the2nd version the best. The green sashing made your flower blocks look really small while the white makes them more proportional.(did I spell that right?). The white version gets my vote. Happy stitching.

Yup, that's better!

I love seeing the multiple settings of blocks...thanks. I tend to like "crowded" quilt design so I like the green however the white does make the applique blocks stand out more.
