Bound and finished

For a little while there I thought that finishes could be a little overated but now I've finished the Licorice Allsorts quilt, I might change my mind on that one. The pattern is in the book Quilt Romance by Kaffe Fassett. Mine measures approximately 73"x76"
Love the big stitch quilting in varigated perle #8 and love the texture and softness of the quilt.
Love the bias binding that echoes the colours of the little flowers in the background fabric.
Love the big blooms on the back.
Love the finish!
I used a different batting on this one. It is the Quilters Dream Orient, a mixture of bamboo, silk, tencel ( a plant fibre) and cotton. It's very smooth and soft, has a bit more body than the Quilters Dream 100% cotton which I normally use. It has lovely drapability but being denser than the other batting I use, I don't think I'd use it for finer hand quilting.
I'd love to use this one again for big stitch quilting and it would be fantastic for machine quilting.
I have washed the quilt which was my big test for it and I never got any pilling which you often get with a bamboo batt.
Oh and P.S I love little Miss Ella who is going to get the quilt after I fondle it for a couple of weeks.

Oh it's just so lovely! I'll have to look for some of that variegated perle cotton. I've used the plain white once or twice on smaller projects and I like how it looks.

My mother just gave me "Quilt Romance" for my birthday. I really love the Pickle Dish pattern, but I love your Licorice version even more.

Congratulations on a beautiful quilt. I will have to try making one, one of these days, it is joining the queue of projects in my head.

This looks so soft...and comfy! I love big stitch ever since I read your blogs a couple of moons ago, made a pinwheel and did big stitch with Perle white- just saw a picture today with the baby playing on it! Will send an email with an attachment- I wish you would post more often, but then you might not quilt as much! Sandy

Janet, What can I say, it is just gorgeous!! The colors, the quilting, everything. Don't you love that batting? It is one that I stock for my long arm customers and it really is quite soft and drapable. Does very well with machine quilting, nice review for the hand quilting! It would be difficult for me to give this one away.

Ah, quilt love! There's so much to love about this one - isn't it such a rush to take that last stitch in the binding? I can never resist giving the quilt a quick pop and shake - more of a symbolic gesture than anything else, I suppose. Just love your finish!

I literally was going through all of my older Kaffe Fassett books tonight and looked at the pattern for this one and decided it was one of the hardest he made. I am still a relatively new quilter but I've loved quilting for so long that I have all of his books. Most of the quilts don't look hard to me anymore but this one... definitely still does so three cheers for you, what an accomplishment. Yours looks beautiful.
