The maker of the original quilt, Kerry Dear, used the Marti Michell hexagon templates. I hand pieced mine but you can machine piece if you are ok with set in seams.

I love the spotty back with the striped binding. I cut my inner border 1.5" and the outer one 4.25"
I thought I'd show you a few of my favourite hand quilting books. The Encyclopedia of Designs for Quilting is my absolute favourite. It has so much information on background quilting designs and how to make simple cardboard templates to mark them. I do have a couple of others but these are a few of my favourites that I go to for ideas.

I just love your beutiful Candied hexagon quilt. It is so vibrant and fresh. Lots of yummy colours. All those big and small prints work so well together.
i have done my version of candied hexagon also! handpieced and quilted and it was one of the most enjoyable projects i have ever done. i would suggest it to anyone!
In my wanderings around in blog land I often see a reference to your quilt, it is a stunner IMHO.
I'm going to look for that Encyclopedia book, I love books like that.

Thanks for the info on The Encyclopedia of Designs for Quilting. I haven't seen it but was able to order a copy through Amazon.com. Quilting with Style: Priniciples for Great Pattern Design by Gwen Marston & Joe Cunningham has been my favorite source for info on hand quilting but it looks like the encyclopedia may rival it. I can't wait for it to arrive.
