Sewing accessories

I made a thread catcher and it's perfect for those times I sew away from home.
Here it is folded flat for easy storage from the top.
And ta dah, a quick twist and it opens up.
And voila you have a round mini bucket. Some people are so clever to think up this stuff. I made mine a lot shorter in length and I think I'll make another one even smaller. You can find the free tutorial over at Red Hen Fabrics.
I made it quite a bit shorter than in the pattern because I really only need it for catching threads
I got envious of the social totes I was seeing on the internet so bought the pattern and took four afternoons to make this one.
I knew from what I'd read that it was tricky to put together and it was. To be honest, I have no desire to make another one. I like it but I don't love it.
I couldn't have understood the pattern if it wasn't for the step by step tutorial from here.
And last but not least is this pouch, the famous Sew Together Bag by Sew Demented. It's my new favourite accessory because it has three zippered pouches plus the parts between are great storage pockets as well. I love it so much that I''l be making more than this one when I get the chance. Once again an online tutorial helped enormously with the construction. I chose not to add the pincushion as I don't need it but it has a little felt piece on one side for parking needles.
I've only been able to manage some limited sewing these last months as I had an issue with my right hand that prevented proper movement of two fingers but I'm back to full use now thanks to some cortisone injections and a brace I've been wearing at night.

I'm unable to reply to comments for the time being. I'm flying to New Zealand as my Dad passed away and after the funeral I'll be spending time with my family there. Thanks for visiting especially after my long absence. I hope to be back on board in a few weeks.

  1. Sorry to hear about your Dad. Enjoy sharing memories with your family. Love that zippered bag and the thread holder. Have the pattern to make the zippered bag but it will have to wait til my broken arm mends I can relate very much on the non sewing front.
    Take care
    Cheers

The sew together bag is great, isn't it? I made one for myself recently, and use it a lot. I plan to make a few more as gifts.

It's hard for me not to be able to sew, and would imagine it is for you also. Your current creations are all lovely--as always! Travel safe.

  10. Glad you mentioned that you wouldn't make another social tote. Although it is very pretty, personally my limited time is better spent quilting. Sorry to hear about your loss and temporary injury. You have been missed. Come back when you are ready.

You are sure to make a whole new crop of people envious of your social tote - it looks fabulous! Your new pouch looks awesome as well!
I'm glad your hand is working better again - I can imagine how frusterating it was to be limited in what you could sew. I hope it stays working and continues to improve.

  23. Thanks for your comments about the social tote and its construction. It is much more useful feedback when folks say what they like and don't like about a pattern.
I would like to hear more about the other pattern though. How do you use it etc. what exactly is it that you love?
All the best with your travel plans, especially since they are for a sad occasion. Hopefully you will also get to catch up with others you may not see often.

  28. To begin, one should know that quality suits are not made of shoddy content. The best fabric for tailoring is wool. Wool can be easily molded and shaped with steam. Proper interfacings are also essential. Confer with your pattern envelope for recommendations. Websites selling Sewing Accessories as well sources information and facts when a right interfacings for lapels, waistbands, and collars
