This poor neglected blog has been sleeping a lot lately. I missed visiting my favourite blogs too and I'm sorry if you've been waiting to hear from me however, that doesn't mean I haven't been busy.
At the moment I'm spending some relaxing evenings hand piecing a Trip Around The World quilt from Brigitte Giblin's facebook challenge. It's a lot of fun and my quilt is taking on it's own personality with each round. I thought I'd be doing something in softer colours but it has a mind of it's own. The constant which everyone is using will be the red and white spot fabric.
Hand piecing is not my forte and I don't mind admitting that all these squares aren't 1 1/2". I seem to have my own personal seam allowance.
I have a few projects up my sleeve I've been wanting to get to including these softies I want to make for the grandchildren. I have a lot of catching up to do on other quilts as well.
I had a bit of tidying up around the place with my fabric since my son bounced back home to live. My sewing stuff had migrated into several rooms much to my horror. I now have two new flat pack cupboards which have been squeezed into the sewing room.
It's also now got improved new lighting in there so is much nicer to work in.
I've been so quiet on the blog since I set myself the goal of finishing up a quilt for the Sydney quilt show which opens tomorrow. I was putting in forty hours of quilting a week towards the end but I made it. I'll be back in a couple of days and then I can show you some photos of the quilt.
Until next time, Janet
Today seems to have been my lucky day! I was looking for some hints on needleturn - esp circles and leaf points, and there you are!
ReplyDeleteReally enjoying your work! Thanks!
Great progress on the challenge there Janet and I am looking forward to seeing what you have entered. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteHi Janet, it's great to see you back on the blog. I'll be looking out for your quilt tomorrow. I hope it's the amazing green and red one in your header.
ReplyDeleteNice to see you are back! I can't wait to see your quilt which is going to hang in Sydney tomorrow. I was lucky to see your "old" quilt last week in Melbourne in the flesh and it's even more breathtaking than I thought. The quilting is just amazing. I had to laugh about your sewing stuff migrating to several rooms; it seems that is the natural order or things as it happens here as well;).
ReplyDeletenice to see a post from you, I think of you often
ReplyDeletehad to smile at how things migrate into other rooms happens to all of us at one time or another I think.
Love your challenge block so far, very fun to see all of them on different blogs and IG .
good luck at the show with your quilt and I look forward to seeing pictures of it finished!
Kathie

ReplyDeleteNice to see your post... Love the look of your own minded quilt...;0) but that's how it is...and should be...:0)
ReplyDeleteSo exciting about your new quilt!!!
Good for you! Looks like you have been very productive! I can't wait to see your quilt!
ReplyDeleteLove your TATW Janet, it is addictive isn't it!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back to the blogging world, Janet! Quiet here doesn't mean quiet in the studio, sewing room, kitchen etc. I heard about the quilt along little too late. I would have loved to join in. I like your term - Personal Seam Allowance.. I may have to borrow it. I use it all the time! In fact, that may be the only kind I use :) Enjoyed looking at your stash and cupboards. It's always nice to have kids home.. Enjoy while it lasts.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your quilt from the show will be fabulous! Looking forward to the reveal.
ReplyDeleteOoooh HURRY Janet -- I can't wait to see the quilt! I love your TAW -- isn't it a fun quilt? It's the first time I've hand pieced, and while I don't love it, I'm certainly enjoying the process. My colors are weird though too -- not at all what I thought they'd be LOL! Love the pretty cupboards -- my sewing room had spread all over the house too and we had company over the weekend so I cleaned up -- now I can't find a darn thing! I had to re-cut rows 13 and 14 of my TAW cause they're lost in the disaster LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteI too enjoying the TATWC! I really like your color choices! I can't wait to see your new quilt!
ReplyDeleteI was so happy to read your post! Love your TATWC block. I have not tried hand piecing yet, but plan too sometime. Very cute projects for the grandkids! And so nice to have your sewing nicely organized. I am really looking forward to seeing your new quilt! You do such amazing work!!
ReplyDeleteHI Janet, I love your Trip Around The World Quilt and how it looks like it is floating ! Is that because you are doing it by hand ? I love the colors too and the red makes it pop!
ReplyDeleteI too have not been on my blog much lately just so many other things going on , hopefully we can both stay with it more now , can't wait to see the finished quilt and the dolls. Good luck with both
Great to see your activities again! And look firward to seeing your quilt show entry, knowing it will be stunning!!
ReplyDeleteLove your TAW, mine is developing its own personality too! We will be at the show on Friday, looking forward to seeing your quilt.
ReplyDeleteWell your Trip Around the World may have a life of it's own, but it's a beautiful life.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see you're back :0) Having spent all of that time totally focused on quilting will reap rewards I am certain!! I love the look of your new project - It will be fun to watch it progress. I'm dying to see pictures of your new masterpiece!!! Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteIt's good to hear that all is well! Your TATW is looking so happy! :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck at the show - looking forward to seeing your finished quilt
ReplyDeleteWonderful to see you back, and can't wait to see your photos! Your story about the fabric migration made me remember when my husband started making comments about my fabric being in three rooms, and I pointed out that he has his stuff in two garages, plus the backyard, and now he is working on me to get a new tuff shed!!! Gotta love them!
ReplyDeleteLovely to have you back Janet - I was only thinking I hadn't seen anything from you for a while! Good luck at the Show.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on staying so focused! I'm looking forward to seeing your latest quilt!

Congratulations! Your quilt is a masterpiece. Could you tell me what you used to mark the quilting lines? They look very visible for quilting but look like they are all gone in the finished quilt. That's what these old eyes seem to need these days.
