We took a trip into Sydney on the train yesterday, mainly to soak up the sights and sounds and to visit that fabulous book store, Kinokuniya.
Best thing I saw all day, was a man who took the time to buy a meal for a homeless girl and have a chat to her. It warmed the heart.
Worst thing I saw was the price of the turkeys and hams at David Jones food hall. Everyone knows it's where you go when you are a purveyor of fine food, lol.
Check the price out.
I loved the old fella that remarked to his wife that if that's what Christmas costs, they could only afford to have it every five years.
It was great fun to see the animated Christmas scenes in the store windows.
I found an even bigger reindeer in the store! It's yours for $5,500.
very cute dress!!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice holiday
Those are crazy prices. It certainly make you aware where every morsel of food is going.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a lovely Christmas!
Janet
What a fun post. Perfect for the holidays. I love the way you described your day in Sydney with the best and worst. That moment of kindness for the homeless warms the heart.
ReplyDeleteFinancial reality sets in here and I have to admit, if I were uber-wealthy and in JUST the right mood, I'd have to have that reindeer. I'm quirky like that. :) Merry Christmas and again, thanks for the happy post. *karendianne.
That reindeer photo is priceless! Love its pink boots! At those prices, I couldn't afford the ham or turkey, even when it goes half price on Monday! It makes you wonder what will happen to it when it doesn't, in fact, sell!!! The little dress is very sweet!
ReplyDeleteLoved coming on your trip with you, great pics Janet. xo
ReplyDeleteWow, those prices remind me of the prices in Japanese Supermarkets! I just wonder who buys that stuff. I recon some people do! What a cute dress you've made for little Miss Ella.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!

ReplyDeleteThose prices are unbelievable!! Do people actually buy them for that?!
You are a girl of so many talents - always love your Show and Tell - very interesting your turkey shopping, I wonder if it really tastes so superb?
ReplyDeleteHugs - Lurline♥
Of course you still have it in you to sew clothes! It's like bike riding; you don't forget. And that's simply a darling dress. I'm glad you went to Sydney for the sights. I'd love to see that David Jones store. If you haven't seen this blog post about the windows there, you simply must. It had me giggling. I won't ever be able to think of shepherds in the field as I did before.

Gorgeous dress...,you did well!
ReplyDeleteWell, I won't be buying a Turkey from DJ's, how can they justify that cost!
Wait a minute.....is the price of that turkey and ham in DOLLARS???? Really????? I just looked at the conversion charts, and the AUD is really close to the US Dollar. How could this possibly be!?! I'm in shock!
ReplyDeleteIs all the food at that store priced the same way? And who is buying it?
This totally has me stumped!
Oh....and that dress is adorable! Your little Miss Ella is going to love it! Sweet!
The dress is positively darling! Gracious, I feel so lucky that my ham only cost $12 and its locally grown and is usually delicious! Your story about the man buying the meal for the homeless girl is heartwarming. I always try to make eye contact with them and give them a smile or a sandwich if I have one.
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable dress! My boys are the same - still wearing some smaller sizes than what they really are.
ReplyDeleteCould those prices be a mistake? That's crazy!! I love the little dress!!! Those fabrics are so cute and it's so fun and bright!! I bet she'll be the belle of the ball in that dress.
ReplyDeleteYour little dress is so darling! I love it!

ReplyDeleteThe little dress is just gorgeous. I love that stylish deer with the heels. I'm glad you snapped a photo for us to enjoy. Have a Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI'm reeling, that ham translates to £318! This makes Harrods a cheap place to shop!
ReplyDeleteVery adorable dress!! Here's wishing you very Happy Holidays!!
ReplyDeleteCute dress.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking they had to buy the whole gaggle/herd/whatever of turkeys and pigs to find ONE that was suitable. Obviously that explains the price
What! More than 400 dollars for a piece of meat? No way... Not even in 400 years. I'll eat soup then!
ReplyDeleteCute dress! and reindeer.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what that ham cost in US dollars but I can see why that man would say every 5 years.
Janet,
ReplyDeleteThat dress is DARLING! I love the colors.
