These are all the blocks that I've completed so far for the Flower Garden quilt that I started in Kim McLean's class last weekend. Since I'd done the fabric selection for twelve blocks in one go, it really has sped up production. These have all been stitched in the evenings.
I'm convinced that this method of prep really does save time. You can click on these photos for a bigger view.
I thought putting all the blocks in collage form was a good way to see them together and get a sense of how I'm going with colours.
I have to take a break from these over the next week, I have a couple of swap items that need finishing off but I'll be back into them after that.
I love using what I call "production mode" When prepping, everything is out so to get a few blocks started at the same time does move things along. These fabric choices are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThey look fantastic! I love all the Kaffe!
ReplyDeletebeautifull flowers, I love they. Greeting, Marita
ReplyDeletewell Janet they look fantastic, well done.
ReplyDeletecheers shez
Wow, spectacular Janet. Just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh janet they are truly beautiful. Are you needle turning? Your applique is amazing. And I didn't get a chance to tell you how jealous I was of your dinner with Cathy, Kaffe, Kim et al. Sooooooo jealous. I hope you had a great time. I'm sure you have been told before that you could be Kim's sister!
ReplyDeleteWow! Your quilt is going to be gobsmackingly gorgeous. I wish I could be a fly on your wall when you're working. I am in total awe of your applique skils.
ReplyDeleteHi Janet,
ReplyDeleteHave enjoyed the workshop with you and the eye candy. I can see that all that preparation is the way to go and will certainly try it when I get back to doing some applique. In actual fact it probably is how I go about things anyway - all that prep with the hexagons!!!!
Hope you are well.
Love Shirley.x
p.s. Having clicked on one of the photo's and gone all googly eyed I would like to ask you when you are stitching a piece down that has a colour change in the fabric what thread you use and which shade? It all blended in so well.

Once again, I'm awed by your work. Your colors are wonderful and you're very dedicated to get these accomplished so quickly. Your background fabric is an especially nice choice. All around... well done!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous.
ReplyDeleteJanet, look at how beautiful. I'm intrigued by the cut out work you did with the first piece. What method is that? It's really neat and I can only imagine what talent it takes to get that down! ...and I don't know what it is with me but I have this thing with stems and lines. I like them all to be and thin and flowing and lovely as you create them but then I think you know that about me already. :) It isn't that I don't focus on the entire piece but to me, getting that nice fine stem is such a gift. Thank you for sharing your work and Yippie you get to work with K.M. :)
ReplyDeleteGoodness you always amaze me on how much quilting you can get done!! This is going to be a beauty :0)
ReplyDeleteCrispy
Oh my gosh! Your applique is just perfect and I love these blocks. I'm going back to study them now...
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing all your beautiful blocks. I always do all the prep first, cutting out all the shapes and gluing them in place before any stitching starts. Sometimes I find that I need to change a fabric choice to balance the block and at least I see that before sewing. And once the block is ready I can just sit and sew. Much faster than when I used to cut, place and then sew each piece. Can't wait to see more of your work!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! You do amazing applique work! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAbsoutely beautiful....your work is so fun to see...
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful. I love the look of applique but just can't do it. I am all thumbs.
ReplyDeleteThey are so beautiful Janet!
ReplyDeleteEach of your flowers is a little piece of art! Just gorgons!

ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to see your progress! Choosing fabrics is fun but time consuming too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blocks Janet! Do you always needle turn all your applique projects?
ReplyDeleteYour blocks make such a delightful, joyful garden! Your fussy cuts and stitching are perfect. :)
ReplyDeleteLovely blocks - as usual!
ReplyDeleteWhat program do you use for your collage? I'm having 'issues' with PSE and these look really nice.
Do you ever sleep, or do you sit up all night sewing??!! These blocks are fabulous! I like to take photos of work in progress, as I think it gives a different view - when I took a photo of a friend's quilt top for my post on Friday, she was amazed at how different it looked.
ReplyDeleteThese are so lovely!! I can imagine each one framed hanging in a row. Of course a quilt will be cosier!! I love your fussy cutting.
ReplyDeleteYou have selected wonderful fabrics for the blocks. And fussy cutting adds to the design.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Shirley - truly eye candy!
ReplyDeleteBeautifull! They look like little pictures on there own. Yes making pictures is a good way to see what the overall effect is. You have a lot of work done already.
