Blooms

These are all the blocks that I've completed so far for the Flower Garden quilt that I started in Kim McLean's class last weekend. Since I'd done the fabric selection for twelve blocks in one go, it really has sped up production. These have all been stitched in the evenings.
I'm convinced that this method of prep really does save time. You can click on these photos for a bigger view.

I thought putting all the blocks in collage form was a good way to see them together and get a sense of how I'm going with colours.
I have to take a break from these over the next week, I have a couple of swap items that need finishing off but I'll be back into them after that.

I love using what I call "production mode" When prepping, everything is out so to get a few blocks started at the same time does move things along. These fabric choices are fantastic!

Oh janet they are truly beautiful. Are you needle turning? Your applique is amazing. And I didn't get a chance to tell you how jealous I was of your dinner with Cathy, Kaffe, Kim et al. Sooooooo jealous. I hope you had a great time. I'm sure you have been told before that you could be Kim's sister!

Wow! Your quilt is going to be gobsmackingly gorgeous. I wish I could be a fly on your wall when you're working. I am in total awe of your applique skils.

Hi Janet,
Have enjoyed the workshop with you and the eye candy. I can see that all that preparation is the way to go and will certainly try it when I get back to doing some applique. In actual fact it probably is how I go about things anyway - all that prep with the hexagons!!!!
Hope you are well.

p.s. Having clicked on one of the photo's and gone all googly eyed I would like to ask you when you are stitching a piece down that has a colour change in the fabric what thread you use and which shade? It all blended in so well.

Janet, look at how beautiful. I'm intrigued by the cut out work you did with the first piece. What method is that? It's really neat and I can only imagine what talent it takes to get that down! ...and I don't know what it is with me but I have this thing with stems and lines. I like them all to be and thin and flowing and lovely as you create them but then I think you know that about me already. :) It isn't that I don't focus on the entire piece but to me, getting that nice fine stem is such a gift. Thank you for sharing your work and Yippie you get to work with K.M. :)

Oh my gosh! Your applique is just perfect and I love these blocks. I'm going back to study them now...

Thanks for sharing all your beautiful blocks. I always do all the prep first, cutting out all the shapes and gluing them in place before any stitching starts. Sometimes I find that I need to change a fabric choice to balance the block and at least I see that before sewing. And once the block is ready I can just sit and sew. Much faster than when I used to cut, place and then sew each piece. Can't wait to see more of your work!

Lovely blocks - as usual!

What program do you use for your collage? I'm having 'issues' with PSE and these look really nice.

Do you ever sleep, or do you sit up all night sewing??!! These blocks are fabulous! I like to take photos of work in progress, as I think it gives a different view - when I took a photo of a friend's quilt top for my post on Friday, she was amazed at how different it looked.

Your applique is absolutely beautiful!!! I love needleturn, too. Your work has inspired me to keep going on a block-of-the-month I've been working on for some time. Also, I decided to take another look at your applique tutorials. Thanks for the lovely work.

Me again. After looking at the workshop photos, how big is this quilt? It looks huge behind Kim - or is there more than one quilt there?
