Stitching by hand

The weather has been so up and down the last couple of weeks so on the cool days I thought I'd pick up some hand quilting for a last hurrah before it gets too hot to quilt.
I should name this Double Wedding Ring "the quilt that goes on and on", like the song. I did get two border sprays quilted inside the roses which was not something I was looking forward to.
It wasn't the big task I had built up in my mind after all. I haven't cut away behind the applique and I'm quilting with a cotton batting so the stitches are bigger than most of the rest in the quilt. I can live with that. All the applique is quilted around the shapes as well so it's a lot of quilting to do.
Look! I'm hand piecing, woo hoo, you know it's not my strong point but I'm doing it!
These are blocks 2 and 3 of The Circle Game  block of the month from Amitie
I need to do some blog keeping and want to thank a few people for their kindnes and generosity in sending me these treats. Thank you friend for sending me these needles to try which are wonderful.
Thank you to another friend who was kind enough to send me these two fabulous bird fabrics, I love them.
All the way from a friend in the Netherlands, some pieces of gorgeous chintz that just glow and shimmer. Thank you so much.
I don't pass on awards because I hate to single just a few people out and I can never choose. I still think it's an honour though and so thank you Nat for the versatile blogger award.

I never heard of Amitie so I went to check it out. I like your Circle blocks better than what I see on their site.
Your hand quilting is going to take a while with all the close stitching you are doing but it is going to be oh so beautiful.

Hi Janet,
I have been using Jeana Kimball needles for a while now and just love them. Longer needles have meant my knuckles don't get cramp like they did with the short needles.Over time they bend slightly and they are just great for needleturn.

Dear Janet, Your quilting is an inspiration. I know what you mean, once it has been decided to quilt a certain way, you have to stick with it! :)
I love those dutch fabrics: I found that being a bit stiffer they work nice for applique. I can't wait to see where you use them.
I missed visiting you, and thank you so much for not giving up on me!
Receive my love and admiration like always,
V.

Hand piecing is what I like, but not a love of time spend on it. Have a great day quilting - Hugs Nat

Janet,

Your quilting is exquisite! I clicked on the photo to see if you had machine basted the quilt. And I saw those almost invisible hand stitches. Amazing!
Love the bird fabrics and the blocks are beautiful.

Do you know what's better than Jeana Kimball needles? Treating yourself to a NEW Jeana Kimball needle from the pack. :-) I tend to use them on and on and on and on. I picked out a new one recently and was so happy to have it in my hands. Lesson learned. Your Amitie blocks look smashing. I was in the middle of sewing chaos when the most recent pack arrived so haven't opened it up. I felt a little like the packet -- arrived slightly damaged in a clear plastic sack. Poor thing. ;-) Your hand applique and hand quilting are SO LOVELY! Oh my, Janet. Keep plugging away and we will await your finish (without being pushy).

I just love that quilt, Janet. As a matter of fact, I think it's my favorite of yours.

Beautiful work as always. Question,
how many French knots did you put in the flowers? It adds so much.
What wonderful goodies.

I think we all have those "forever" projects but by picking it up once in a while you will have it done eventually. I don't think the larger stitches distract from smaller ones.

I hope your hand piecing is getting easier with practice...the circles are great!!

Wow, lots of lovely gifties too!!

The quilting on your DWR is so pretty! I know quilting through the layers on the Roses is slow going..but it adds such nice dimension to them.

Your hand pieced blocks look wonderful!

Such lovely fabrics you've received. Those bird fabrics would be nice as a bit of Broderie Perse applique? :)

What exquisite applique and hand quilting! Your work is amazing.

Those circle blocks are so fun. I'd be worried about stretching the curves as I sewed - I mangle things a bit when I hand piece :0)
I don't like quilting through extra layers either - your quilt is looking gorgeous!!
Love the bird fabrics!!
