Little finishes

When I was young, my mother told me not to start any new projects until I had finished what I had started. I think it stifles me to do that now and my abilities wouldn't grow without tryng new things.
However, the time comes when I really need to finish the annoying little things hanging around like this yarn bag I started last year. It didn't take long, I only had one handle and some flowers and leaves to do. I love it and now I have a special yarn project bag. The pattern is from Attic 24, be warned, once you start looking around, your fingers will start itching to crochet something colourful.
It hold so much and it's squishy and soft.
My other little finish was the pincushion kit I got from Ma Mercerie. I love how it turned out but I have to say when I looked at the macro photo, I can see areas for improvement, just little ones. My tension is a lot better than on the thimble ring I did. I found a lot of information on Ma Mercerie and on Temari Train that helped a lot.

For those who asked how the thimble is used, go to this post.
After being a slacker last week, I did get to make 28 klosjes this week,
Please don't mind the ones turned the wrong way.
I have them stored by colour so I can see which piles need more. I think I'll start assembling soon. Total now is 129.
Just a little tidbit to finish off because I have to get ready, I'm off to a one year olds 1st birthday party.

I recieved a lovely gracious email from Rannveig about my little purse tutorial being the same as hers. Click here to see hers. It's purely coincidental as can happen and I applaud bloggers who keep an eye on these things.
Her one has the same shape and size and the zip is machine sewn in whereas mine is hand sewn. Her pattern is from a purse she had bought I think and mine came from a Japanese book but with changes made. I'll add a little note about this on the tutorial as soon as I have time. It's a very common purse and there are a lot of patterns out there the same or similar as we now realise.

  7. It's a good thing at the moment that I don't crochet, because I think I would drop all my quilt projects and make that very cute yarn bag. LOVE IT!! The color combinations with yarn nowdays just call my name.

  11. Now Janet....be careful about what Mum's say to you. My Mum told me Í hope you have 10 children and they're all like you'. I had two boys then ran for the hills. lol. No they're lovely really. Your crocheted bag is gorgeous and colourful. And you've been busy patchworking as well. It looks great. Kind regards, Anita.

  14. Serious drooling over the yarn bag. I'd surely use it as a purse. Or maybe I'd need several. They'd look so pretty hanging from doorknob all over the house. :o)

Similar ideas are bound to happen. So many talented and creative bloggers. However, I do get very peeved at blatant copycatting. By the way I've seen many of your little pouches showing up on blogs giving you credit for a great tutorial.

I think similar ideas are bound to happen. Your bag tutorial is fabulous.

  24. 129!!! That's awesome Janet! Slow and Steady wins the race. I LOVE the crochet bag and Attic24's blog -- darn it -- just put another thing down on my list of lovelies I'd like to make. And yes your little bag is much like the one my friend made for me years ago -- great ideas aren't just limited to one mind!!!

  25. I LOVE that crochet bag and you're right, Attic24's blog is excellent. I've added it to my reader and have also added that bag to my must make list of projects. I'm thinking scrappy to use up all of my dishcloth yarn leftovers.

  27. Janet, I have that bag on my "to crochet" list. I love "Attic 24" - she's got wonderful projects and ideas, plus she takes great photos so there's lots of great color inspiration too! I love your color choices for your bag. I would have never thought to combine them, and they are absolutely wonderful! It's gorgeous - I'll bet you get lots and lots of compliments!

  28. I used to sit beside a woman at a quilt group who would work doggedly through each project until it was finished - she was perhaps the most boring person I've ever had the misfortune to know!!!
As for similar items - I followed a link once to something and was extremely puzzled as it was the same as something I make - but the maker of that one was Argentinian, so no chance that either of us had copied the other!!

  29. Your yarn bag is to die for, Janet. The colors remind me of being in a candy shop. Another great finish!

  30. Oh, Janet, your bag is fan-tabulous! Crochet bag envy! My hooks are getting rusty. Your pincushion turned out great! I would need my Inspected Clouseau magnifying glass to work on that. That is going to be a wonderful klosjes quilt!

  31. It is amazing how quilting women on either side of the earth, even, can have similar things going on at the same time! Loved this little bag. Your crochet bag is fabulous. I really love the shape and scalloped edge.

  35. Wonderful bag for your yarn, I especially like the scallops at the top...pretty! I like the little coin purses...and of course it is a common pattern, and bound to be out there somewhere! It is nice to finish things up.

  36. I find similar patters all over the web, so with these things it's hard to claim one "your own". But thanks to your great tutorial I'm not afraid of zippers anymore; I sewed several pouches...made a few boxy ones too and even made a few 'INNERBAGS" for IN my handbag, zippered and all!! So...I'm gratefull for your pouches post!!!

  41. I love your yarn bag!! I keep seeing gorgeous crochet pieces on various blogs. It is so tempting especially after seeing this one.
Your Klosjes are really looking pretty.
If I had to work on only one project at a time I think I'd lose interest real fast. Having a variety keeps everything interesting. At least, that's my rationalization. :-)

  42. I still love your little purses and want to make one so bad! Got to get to that! And I love your crochet'd bag - that is wonderful! I love the colors!
