Klosjes week 1

Here it is, my first klosjes Saturday. These are being stitched all around the world, the virus started at Supergoof and she has a list on her side bar of participants. Nadine has listed some new people who have joined in and Valentina has explained how to pronounce the word. Shirley has just joined in too, waving to you all.
How exciting is that!
After making 25 of them, I've been thinking about changing my pattern for the block. What! There's been too much thinking going on while I've been sitting and stitching, could you smell the wood burning? If I'm going to change anything, I had better do it now before I go on.
The one on the left is  3" finished, the one in the middle is 2.5", the one on the right is also 2.5" but has a bigger middle. I redrafted the block, the middle is still 1" finished in size but it now looks more like a spool than a bow tie shape. Which one shall I carry on with?
Of course I've been travelling around blogs, looking, comparing, getting more indecisive, how unlike me!  Which one do you prefer?

Edit: I did a paste up of options without seam allowances and have decided to stick with what I've been doing. Spools are all different so there is no right or wrong, just personal preference.
I had an impulse buy yesterday, again, so unlike me. It's true. I was on my way to the pharmacy and passed a shop that had a closing down sale.  Look what I found and bought home in the boot of the car. It fits lots of little bits and pieces and now I've got rid of a couple of those plastic drawer sets and made room in my bookcase for more books.
Until next time, happy stitching.

Mine look more like the one on the right. None of them are wrong. Go with your instincts. What a fabulous find with the chest of drawers. Now that would hold a lot.
I am all set for some stitching today. See you later.

I did exactly the same as you and have lost sleep over what size to do mine!! I found a book called "501 quilt blocks" and followed their guide. Mine will be 3 inches finished and the block is divided into 4 (instead of 3) and the centre square is twice the width of the sides.

Your spools look fantastic. I can't believe how many you have already done. I've managed five but I'm bit rusty with the handpiecing.

What a fantastic impulse buy. You had to get it - you were at the right place at the right time. It must have had your name written all over it!

I like the one in the middle. But that might just be because of the colours, but personally I think when they are joined the bigger middle might be overpowering. This is just my opinion - you have to do what you prefer!
Love the chest too, it is a beauty!

Janet! They are Gorgeous!
Truly Lovely... I wouldn't change a thing.
But go with your intuition: as far as I can see it has never steered you wrong... Look at that chest of drawers!
:)
happy stitching!

Love your new cabinet - wonderful impulse purchase. You'll have fun filling all the drawers. :-)

Your "impulse" buy is amazing and I would have bought it too.

I've been thinking about my spools as well...actually I've been worrying about them because someone told me they weren't quite right...hmmmm...what to do? Well I think I'm going to stick with what I'm doing and I think you should too!
Yours look great all laid out together Janet....very exciting journey we're on :o)

The spools are darling. And what a find that cabinet is! It's a little magical I think -- like something out a children's story. All those drawers, just like a treasure chest or bits of magic. Very, very cool.

Enjoy your weekend!

Oooh Janet! They look fantastic! So, which of the three did you end up going with then? It's hard for me to tell with so many in the other picture??? (Or maybe I'm just goofy.) Love the new chest!

What a nice spools. My top is already finished,it's alread a long time that the spools are maked by a lot of people.

So the big decision for me too is to bow tie or to spool. I made 3 last night, like yours on the left, and I thought mine looked bow tieish.Your blocks look great!I would say the one one the right looks more like a spool. I see Supergoof has posted her diagram for the pattern, so I will give that a whirl and see how they compare. Sharon.

You are really making progress. I'm still resisting, really, I am! My hexi's are still calling me!!! I'll make my spools vicariously through yours and Valentina's blog *s*

You said it, Janet : there are no wrong or right spools, just the one that you LOVE and enjoy making, and yours are all gorgeous!

Ooooh, such a wonderful cabinet, indeed ! Terrific find ;>)

Nice buy...I could find many uses for a nice piece of furniture like that...would class up my sewing room quite a bit. Am sewing my spools (klosjes) too at 3.5 inches , 3inches finished. stacking them up and buying more fabric that would look good in the spools and of course another container to hold them. Life goes on!

Lovely chest of drawers! I am loving the spool blocks popping up all over blog land...are yours hand pieced?

Your chest of drawers is to die for, Janet! It would have come home with me as well.

Your klosjes are super cute. I've written down the instructions for a future date.

Hmm, Janet, now you've got me looking at and thinking about mine!
I've just done 11 so far...
I do like the one on the right the best, the wider centre looks more like a spool...Hmm...but I also like the bigger 3" block!
LOVE the chest of drawers...good buy Janet.

I like that they are different sizes! The fabrics are pretty and it will be a jaunty quilt when you decide it is a finished size :)

Love the chest you found--beautiful wood. I scored a free lingerie chest when my brother and sister in law moved--SIL put in the Salvation Army pile but I snatched it up. It is perfect in my sewing room to corral projects and uncategorized "stuff".

Janet, your blocks inspired an edit on the post that I put up today. If you like, have a look at my blocks that are a bit bigger than either of yours.

Your klosjes look so lovely! I love the romantic palette you've chosen. And I think your spools are wonderful as is. It is always good to know your options, but I'm glad you decided to stick with what you've done.

Great chest of drawers! That looks like a LOT of storage. Nice!

What a fun quilt-along! I love spools! That dresser is wonderful, I have a lot of those plastic tub/dressers and would love to replace them with something so cute!!

I love those spools too. Its contagious!!! I made a few too.

That chest of drawers is a great find!

Hi Janet,
I like your original spool block. Thanks for the tutorial, by the way.
I plan to get some ready for a car trip I'll be taking the end of April (I'm thinking I better have 50 or so ready as we are going about 1200 miles). I can't do quilting in the car (too many stabs to the fingers), but hand piecing seems to work out OK.

Hi - just googled klosjes on Australian blogs and found this entry. No right or wrong - but traditionally the block was probably a 9 patch - designed on a 3 x 3 grid. So a three inch block would have a finished centre square of one inch, with one inch margins on each side. Yours look nice anyway...
