I think I'll have to call it Licorice Allsorts because that's what the blocks remind me of.
I'm not all that good at following instructions to the letter, especially when I know a quicker way so I'm not marking and matching all the dots, I just fold the pieces in half and make the tiniest notch in the middle of the pieces for matching and pinning, it saves a lot of time.
I've been using a core board covered with felt to transfer the blocks from the wall onto the sewing table otherwise I know I would get myself into trouble and I don't want to become best friends with the seam ripper.
I like to use the sewing machine during the day and I keep the handwork for evenings so I'm not being anti social so I've have been appliqueing the baskets and here is the latest batch, I have now made a grand total of 99! These are addictive too and have been tempting a lot of quilters, check out Kathie's, she has them all on the wall. Warning, you could be tempted if you haven't been already.
I caught up with my blog reading in the weekend and have signed up for a quilt along, at Don't Look Now. Yet another long term project, sigh. Honestly I have no discipline! I am in good company though because there are already well over 100 who want to join in.
Love Love Love your new licorice allsorts quilt.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness Janet, that is going to be a spectacular quilt!! I myself haven't tackled curved seams...but, hmmmm....I am a REALLY liking licorice allsorts...might have to put that on the "to do list" and I agree with you about the inspirationg on blogspot, must work on my discipline and get to work!!
ReplyDelete~Andrea
Thisis going to be a very interesting colourful quilt. Will be watching with interest. Have Fun :-)
ReplyDeleteCheers
Lynne
Licorice Allsorts is the perfect name for the quilt, especially with the colors you have chosen. I can't wait to see it finished!
ReplyDeleteJanet I love the new project you are working on but I must say that it looks quite hard. Like you I get soooooooooo distracted and I start something new. I am in the process of having my sewing room remolded and would you believe that I fear taking anything out for fear of losing my inspiration on the projects I am working on. Silly me.
ReplyDeleteThe word, "temptation," should have been a warning to me, but NO! I went ahead and clicked the link to "Don't look now!" Okay -- that title should have been a second warning, but again -- NO! Now I am signing up for another quiltalong. That orange peel block is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of gorgeous -- I'm loving your Quilt Romance quilt! I haven't seen that licorice all sorts candy in years. It reminds me of my grandparents. I wouldn't have thought of it just looking at your quilt, but really is a perfect name for that quilt. I can see why this quilt is distracting you from others. It's going to be a show stopper!
Love that quilt and the baskets! Now you have me hooked into orange peel, too!
ReplyDeleteHugs - Lurline♥
Another great project Janet..it's going to be a stunner!
ReplyDeleteBaskets are looking great too!
Julia ♥
janet, you inspire me with what you do with your Kaffe fabrics. Thanks for taking lots of pictures to share with bloggers around the globe! Also, I appreciate that you are so kind as to leave me comments on my blog! I'm so new that I don't get many! Happy quilting! Jayne
ReplyDeleteLead me not into more temptation, please! Oh lovely! I too am itching to make something from the Quilt Romance book. I have not decided yet which one, but yours is truly stunning!
ReplyDeleteRita
Licorice Allsorts are yummy! Great work! And yes, let's call ourselves "undisciplined," or maybe even "out of control." Me too! We're in great company.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous and even more gorgeous. The allsorts looks like so much fun (but I can't be tempted..no..no, is my new mantra) but yes..yes for the baskets which I have been eyeing off for some time. Love your version. Your sewing routine is the same as mine...snap! Applique on the couch with the kids and the telly - on the machine when I can escape during the day. Hope you have more fun.
ReplyDeletePS. forgot to mention - the orange peel quilt I started a million years ago (yes I'm that old) with Trish Harper. I'm doing in res\pinks\oranges - any fabrics, civil war, kaffe, liberty it's all there. Stoed in a red box where I expect it to stay for some time yet.
ReplyDeleteJanet.. again I am just thrilled to be following your blog!! your quilt on the design wall is just so amazing..I want to touch it!! It is so great how you use these new fabrics!! I love love love this.. but I think I said this about your other one as well!!
ReplyDeletewow wow and wow love it, I too bought the book.
ReplyDeletecheers
Christine
That is absolutely the PERFECT name! Oh I love your baskets!
ReplyDeleteOh Janet, it's looking FABULOUS!!! I love your notch idea, I'm going to use that one. Your baskets are looking great, and make that 151 signing up for the quiltalong (I'm the 151st!!!). I'm with you on the discipline xo
ReplyDeleteYes, Allsorts! Absolutely gorgeous and amazing that you're using scraps. You must have one amazing stash.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun happy quilt! And I think Licorice Allsorts is a perfect name!
ReplyDeleteYour baskets are adding up! Woo-Hoo!
Hahaha -- your post title is a bit like the pot calling the kettle black, isn't it? YOU are the biggest temptress in blogland -- all your projects are SO beautiful! And the fabrics -- you have such a great eye for fabric combinations. I haven't even had a chance to try that fun swirly block and here you are posting MORE. You must stop before my head explodes!!!
ReplyDeleteOh WOW Janet, I love this quilt!! I agree with Thimbleanna, your color sense is awe inspiring!!
ReplyDeleteCrispy
That is a the perfect name for your new quilt. I love the pattern too!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Rhondi
The color in those candies is oh so good looking. I don't think I would like the taste of them, though, as I am not a licorice fan. Your new project looks quite interesting. I would think it could be a good scrap buster quilt.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I'm drawn to Allsorts and have nothing in my stash that could use to make that! I love licorice...fun! Now for the baskets....plenty of fabric in my stash for millions of those cuties!
ReplyDeletewow, it's coming along so nicely! Beautiful! I have that book, but no fabrics like yours. I'll have to collect more fabric, because that quilt calls to me.
ReplyDeleteWow, you are really going nuts w/ those curves. I'm still scared of working with them. Your colors here are amazing. I think this is a blue ribbon quilt you have here.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I just got that rubber thimble by clover and I've been using it...but I still don't love it like I love my metal one. Do you still love it?
This is so lovely, love your blocks and the name of the quilt to be. You are both an inspiration and a source of temptation - in a good way
ReplyDelete; )
It looks like you had a productive weekend of sewing!! I love your licorice allsorts - it looks marvelous.
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour Licorice is going to be amazing! Love what you are doing!
ReplyDeleteLicorice Allsorts - I LOVE YOU ;))))
ReplyDeleteThat is my favorite quilt out of Kaffe's new book. Your colors are perfect.
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are looking so good!!!I too have been thinking about that particular quilt from Quilt Romance.Dare I start another one ? :-)
ReplyDeleteBoy have I missed a lot of great quilty posts from you. I just love the name for the Kaffe quilt. Just perfect!! It is turning out just beautifully. Now you have me wanting to make one for myself. Now that I have the book, I can do it!
ReplyDeleteYou know I was reading your blog this morning and got distracted by going over to Kathie's blog to see her baskets and forgot to come back to your blog. lol
ReplyDeleteI love your baskets too. The other blocks are so pretty.
Any quilts named after candy are all right by me! Your baskets quilt is adorable. I couldn't resist signing up for the quilt along either. How fun!
ReplyDeleteI agree Janet that your blog presents the most temptation!!!
ReplyDeleteI never would have thought of the licorice allsorts but the quilt does look an awful lot like them.
I love your new header too.
Just love your quilt...and just love licorice allsorts! So both very very yummy!!
ReplyDeleteWow! Janet, 99 basket blocks! How big is this quilt going to be? I'm starting this quilt as soon as I can. I've already bought the background fabrics and I'll be using stash for the baskets. I just have to prepare the applique baskets and I can begin. I'm excited! Also the quilt along at Don't Look Now is interesting. Just don't know if I can commit to it at this time, but it's very tempting.
ReplyDeleteI'm hearing a lot of people saying they love and are going to make this quilt, but you are the first one I'm seeing that's actually doing it. LOVE your fabrics, and I know it's going to be spectacular!
ReplyDeleteLove your allsorts quilt blocks and your basket blocks. Both are on my want-to-do list.
ReplyDeleteAnd no one mentioned your new blog header yet. Wow, what beautiful applique! Is it a current or past project?
Vicky F
WOW! WOW! WOW!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful! What a wonderful project. Can't wait to see it finished. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is going to be a gorgeous quilt! I found your blog today and I have enjoyed reading it!
ReplyDeleteJanet. I simply must make this quilt. It is going to be my New Year's resolution quilt. I want to make it and I'm going to make "me" time to sew something I really want to make that isn't a new pattern or a quilt for someone else. Sounds selfish. I'd like some help with it because it looks so complicated and yours is SO LOVELY. I'd like to know more about your process. Did you use the directions in the book? did you foundation piece? I love it. Dearly love it.
ReplyDeleteAnother absolutely gorgeous quilt and the reference to licorice allsorts describes it to a tee.
ReplyDeleteI've probably said this a million times already, Janet but YOUR quilts are simply amazing and to die for. You are an inspiration for so many of us. Thank you.
Another gorgeous banner!
ReplyDeleteFirst off...I LOVE your new blog
ReplyDeleteheader....your picture looks sooo
professional!!!
And yes....I am Ga-Ga over this new quilt project of yours...and I have always loved little baskets too!!
Wow! This is looking great! I can't wait till I get some UFO's out of the way so I can start something new! This is getting very high on the to-do-list thanks to your beautiful version.
ReplyDeleteWonderful name and what a gorgeous quilt!
