Au revoir

Its so hard to photograph black quilts but I wanted to show you my first ever applique quilt which I also hand quilted.
I adapted it from a Nancy Pearson pattern back in 1995. I made this specifically for our small guild challenge and it won a third place ribbon. The quilt also ended up in a New Zealand quilters diary. I used fabrics and methods that I would never use today and it's interesting to see the change in my style. I'm going to sit and baste these pieces on for my last princess feather block tonight. I'm hoping I can take it on holiday for a stitching fix when I need it.
I'm away in New Zealand for three weeks from Sunday. My DS, DD and granddaughters as well as a sister live in Auckland and I'm off to help out my DD as she is about to have her 4th child. A boy this time after three girls. My DS also turns 24 while I'm there and one of the children is turning two. I'm pretty excited to see them again.
Just in the nick of time I got my nine patches done for this month and thought I had better do next months as well. Never mind that I'm behind on my BOM.
I don't think I'm going to have much to blog about so this could be a break but I'll still try to keep up with my blog reading, until next time, may all your stitches be small.
Hoo roo as they say in Oz.

Isn't it interesting how our tastes change with time? I think I've gotten bolder with fabric but then that seems to be the trend over all. Love the black quilt and, of course, the princess feathers. Enjoy your holiday!

We had a fabric swap at my guild yesterday where we brought fabric that we used to use and traded it. I had lots of Oriental fabrics with me...it was fun to hear quilters talk about their old favorites and what they are doing now.

Enjoy your time in Aus...sounds like you will be busy in a good way!

Have a great time with your family! Love the fabrics in the block you are basting and I have admired Nancy Pearson for a long time. I wonder what she is up to now?

How exciting to be finishing Princess Feathers! I'm just about to begin Flower Basket Medallion. I just LOVE KIm McLean and I don't think if it weren't for you and Megan Johnson at Will Work for Fabric I would even know about that talented and wonderfully flamboyant designer.

I hope when you come back you'll tell more about the techniques you've abandoned and why. They certainly worked in that lovely black piece.

Bonne vacances.

Your first applique quilt is so pretty, I am glad you shared that one! And your nine patches, and your princess feather...wow, you are a busy girl! Enjoy your new little addition to the family.

When you come back relaxed and refreshed and full of the pleasure of family and new babies, would you talk a bit about how you cut your templates.

I'm just beginning Kim McLeans "Flower Basket Medallion". Obviously, my work will only be as good as my templates and the circles of various sizes are very hard for me to get round and smooth.

Thanks so much.
