Antique and vintage quilt show

I had the good fortune to go out into the country about an hours drive from home to see a collection of antique and vintage quilts belonging to a private collector. I'm sure I was drooling on the floor and nearly hyperventilated when I walked in the doors. Here in Australia we just don't get the opportunity to see antique quilts very often.

The majority of quilts were bought as tops and quilted by the owner on her long arm but some were hand pieced and quilted. A lot of them in one room were from the 1930's but in the old church next door, were some older ones from the 19th century.

Here are some of my favourites.

Bubblegum pink, Delectable Mountains, 1860 - 1880, streak o' lightning setting.
Mosaic also known as Ann and Andy or Triangle Tiles. 1880 - 1910. Background colour is chrome orange.

My favourite red and green quilts, extremely worn and shredding in parts but oh so worthy of being seen, there were only these two. The hand quilting on them was exceptionally fine and quilted over the appliques.

I looked at this one for a long time., it was in very poor condition but the quality of the work on it was phenomenal.

There were sayings scattered around the place, this one tugged at the heart strings.
