what's my style?

I've been quilting for over thirteen years and I've been waiting all that time to discover what style of quilts I would get to love the most and make it my style. Here are some quilt tops off the quilt ladder I keep in my spare room, yes, that's right, I'm coming clean.

The one thing I am sure about is that I don't want to be restricted by a style and that's a good thing for me. I recently came to appreciate 19th century reproduction and 30's quilts so along with applique, that's where I'm at right now. I reserve the right to change that at any time! Applique has always been my first love and I doubt that will change but if any of my family need a quilt, hey I have these tops. I know that some of these will never grow up to be a quilt, some were made as teaching samples and they've served their purpose. I'm OK with that.


Good news this week, welcome to Bethany, our new granddaughter born on the 26th April, to my step daughter, isn't it wonderful, I just love babies!

    You have been very good to step out side the box on many quilt styles. Good for you! I notice my tastes change every few years as new patterns and ideas come onto the market. Who knows what we will like next!

    Guess I have always liked scrappy and traditional quilts. But I am getting to like Amy Butler type prints too. What a beautiful baby. Congrats to the new parents and grandparents. Another quilt in the works??

    I think I love the scrappy style best or maybe it's retro or traditional, lucky we don't really have to choose. Your granddaughter is adorable of course.

    First of all...Congratulations to the new faily member!! So so ssweet..:o))

    I cant decide on what I like either..and as long we are having fun I dont mind.. because that is what I want to have!! :o)

    I think most of us have tried out different styles in quilting, and I think what our favorites are changes by days and mood :o) You have a beautiful collection on your quilt ladder!

    Bethany is just adorable, oh I would never want to put her down!
    Ahh quilt style
    I think we all go thru phases and its a good thing.
    I love working with reproduction fabrics from the 1800's love the traditional style
    but every few months out comes a quilt from me in 30's , primitive style or brights!
    just the way it is and I wouldn't change it for the world.
    For me I have to be happy with what I am working on and inspired.
    The trouble right now is that I am very inspired by quite a few quilts so I need a few hours more a day to accomplish them all!
    and yes they will be finished in my own timeline and thats fine by me!
    LOVE Your quilts the first one is beautiful, love the colors and well the country one is one I still want to make one of these days!

    Love your projects. I have very eclectic tastes. I do gravitate towards certain colors but I love working with different prints, styles, colors; otherwise it would be too boring to do the same over again. Precious little one.

    I moved from pastels, to Debbie Mumm country and now I'm at Freddy Moran. Love the bright colours!!

    so so cute! Congrats. I do not have any quilt tops or UFOS and I am trying to keep it that way. But I must tell you forcing myself to finish this one top (that has no applique) really is not fun. I so enjoy you sharing your different quilts with us. I just finished a 1930s quilt which I will post once I can get some photos

    It looks like in each style you like scrappy regardless of the pattern. I'm with you, applique is the funnest and I've been doing more scrappy...but controlled, I can't give up my control LOL.

    Your quilts are wonderful and Bethany is BEAUTIFUL...Congrats Gramma!!

    I Think we can all Agree with having different Styles...that's what make patchwork Interesting...& the Challenges we give ourselves to think outside our comfort zone...All Your Tops are Fabulous.!!

    I totally get the scrappy part....there is something so down to earth about scrappy quilts! Yours are beautiful, as is your granddaughter! You are right, NOTHING, like a baby!

    First of all, congratulations. She's beautiful. Being a grandma is the best. I with you on style. There are so many ideas to try, I don't want to limit myself. I love your variety. Still piecing my hexagons, on row 10 out of 12.

    I think it's wonderful that you've experimented with so many different styles of quilts. Our likes and dislikes change and I can certainly attest to that. I find myself on that exact journey now. Styles and fabrics that I wouldn't have looked twice at a short while ago now captivate me.

    We're women, right? And we're allowed to change our minds, styles, likes and dislikes, etc.

    I can only hope that in another 12 years or so I will have as many amazing quilts and tops in all those gorgeously different styles. I especially love the scrappy and shabby chic ones, they make me want to get stitching NOW!
    Bethany is a beauty and no wonder she has a little smile on her face she is probably thinking of all those lovely quilts she has to look forward to!!!!
