The vine quilt, panel 2

Woopeeee!!! Another one done, It's the one on the right. There are more leaves on the second panel of this quilt, more than 200 in fact. Believe it or not, I'm not sick of appliqueing leaves yet. It's just as well because it's two down, eleven to go.
I have a thread roll that I made in a class quite a few years back just for applique threads. It was before silk threads came out but to tell you the truth, I love cotton better.
A rainbow of colours! It has zipped sections with Ultrasuede that you sew the thread through, when you want a thread, thread the needle and pull it out through the Ultrasuede. These are Mettler 60 weight embroidery cottons. Nice and fine. There is also a pocket at one end and a zipped see through section on the other.
And where would I be without a small soft cushion to rest on my lap while appliqueing. It saves muscle fatigue in my arms and shoulders. Try it if you haven't already.

You are something else! What stamina to keep hand sewing all those leaves. In the end you will have something very, very valuable. Good for you and that is a very cute little pillow, too. Linda

You are amazing! Those panels are incredible. I love watching your progress on this.
The thread roll is fantastic. What a great idea. I prefer cotton thread over silk for applique too.

Yes I applique with a pillow too
but not one I made and so pretty.
guess I need to change that.
I am with you
I tried silk thread and hated it, actually hated that it was not cotton so went back to cotton and love it
mostly use dmc now but I have a nice selection of the mettler too
I LOVE the way yours looks in the thread roll.

Wow Janet - you amaze me! Another beautiful panel of leaves. Your applique thread holder is quite impressive too. I always use cotton for applique too but I won't be showing the ziploc bag I carry my thread around in. :0)

OMG! Some of those barely look 1/8th inch wide! I agree with Kathie my sofa pillow is looking so plain now..must make a cool pillow for applique!
I used to use this thread a lot and still do sometimes but I mostly use DMC thread now and love it too!

That's right, keep telling yourself you are not sick of appliqueing leaves yet! LOL :) I think if they were all green, you would be sick of leaves by now. They look beautiful! Love your little pillow. I never applique without mine.

Absolutely stunning Janet, both your appliqued vines and thread caddy as well.

You are my inspiration. Thanks for sharing.

The leaf panels are so beautiful. I like using a pillow too. Was the thread holder hard to make? I have looked for a pattern and have also seen something just like that for sale at Karen Kay Buckley's store.

When I linked onto your blog, I said WOW. These vines are incredible. I clicked to see the finished idea and I bow to your dedication and stamina. I can hardly wait to see the finished product.

WOW! I thought my thread organizer was cool - but yours is even cooler! Look at all that thread! I use 60 wt mettler too. And the only store near me that carries it is closing. That stinks. Do you have a problem with the thread rubbing too much against the plastic when you pull it out? I'm trying to find a way to cover it maybe.

Oh, Janet, your vines are turning out so wonderfully! Just stunning! I am lazy--I bought one (or two actually) of those applique/thread caddies and just love it (them). I also have the pattern, but who am I kidding? ;-) Such lovely things to see here!

This is so amazing -- I can hardly believe you're reproducing the fabulous vine quilt. Susan McCord is my all-time favorite quilter. Your leaves looks so wonderful and I never would have guessed your quilt contains fewer leaves -- it's just fabulous in every way and I'm excited to see your progress.
